This Prayer Vigil for Education on Wednesday, August 31st at 9am is to pray for the children of NC to recieve the “sound basic education” guaranteed to them by the NC Constitution. August 31st is the first day of the NC Supreme Count hearing for Leandro v. NC, so we will gather to mourn the 28 years since the Leandro v . NC Case began, acknowledge conditions are worse now than in 1994, and call for the leaders and courts to do what is needed for the 1.5 Million Children in NC by providing their right to public education! Pastors for NC Children is inviting everyone to wear “Red for Ed” that Wednesday, and clergy are invited to wear stoles, collars, or other clergy-wear. We recommend bringing a portable chair for the vigil. Water will be available. This Prayer Vigil is Interfaith and Ecumenical. All who share an interest in ensuring children have what they need to flourish, including a strong public education, are invited to join in. The event will start with a brief press conference led by our coalition partners, Every Child NC. If possible, please arrive 5-10 minutes early to be in position for the 9am Every Child NC coalition press conference as the Vigil will start immediately afterwards, and we would love to have a strong presence standing behind the press conference speakers for visual support. We recommend parking in the Wilmington Street deck (117 S. Wilmington Street) or in the pay lot at the corner of Jones and Wilmington Streets (enter from Jones Street).
