Description

Photographer Vernon Young Jr. has spent 17+ years traveling to document the communities in and around Pittsburgh. His perspective captured through still imagery paints an intimate picture of Pittsburgh natives living in predominately black communities. His connection with people and conviction to capture the essence of their lives has inspired him to pursue unique stories year after year, capturing quiet moments among religious church goers, weddings, sports teams throughout the city, politics figures, musicians, summer basketball classics, funerals, protests and various moments that captured the heart of people. His perspective gives the viewer an inside look at the subject in front of his camera, but it also gives the viewer a depiction of Vernon's heart. His choice of what he captured was great inspired by Gordon Parks, Eli Reed and the late Teenie Harris. His gallery is full of moments that bring laughter to some and tears to others.
