TBI 505 SESSION IS VALUABLE FOR ANYONE WORKING IN THE SCHOOLS, IN SECURE CARE OR CORRECTIONS, IN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROGRAMS OR MEDICAL FACILITIES: This includes counselors and psychologists, therapists, general education teachers, SPED teachers, related service personnel, administrators, support staff, and parents. Co-taught as 7.0-hr workshop, this event is focused on contemporary issues after brain injury. The workshop includes advanced information on acquired brain injuries and how to utilize an understanding of (a) neurodevelopment AND (b) brain-behavior relationships in order to identify and effectively impact students in the classroom and in the community. There is special emphasis on adolescent brain development, the role of the changing brain in transition and exposing myths related to brain-based behaviors; mental health issues including medication management; and identification of depression and suicide prevention strategies. The options of 504 Plans under the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Transition Plans under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and, services into adulthood under the Americans with Disabilities Act will be covered. The adult education format is 30% lecture, 20% large group, 20% small group discussions and dialogue, 15% video training, 10% information sharing and 5% resource review. All materials are provided for this course including PPT handouts, activity sheets and resources. A total of 7 contact hours for professional development/continuing education units. **IMPORTANT - THERE IS A PRE-REQUISITE OF ATTENDING A TBI 100 OR 101 TO ATTEND THIS TRAINING. Your attendance at both days is mandatory to have a spot in this course. Dates are: Friday, February 10th & Saturday, February 11th, 2023. Times: Friday's session is from 4:30pm-8:00pm AND Saturday's session is from 8:30am-12pm AZ Time
