PORTSMOUTH, NH — Last month, Patch in Portsmouth asked readers to offer some thoughts about local businesses who had gone above and beyond for customers in the community. The year 2020 has been a difficult one for everyone but businesses are doing everything they can to help customers and stay afloat during the pandemic. About a dozen readers praised a number of businesses in the city. Bob said The Clip Joint Barbers on Ladd Street offered the best haircuts while Cherie also praised the shop. "Clipjoint is a place like home," she said. "Comfortable atmosphere and a great haircut. Girls are friendly and professional." Kathy said Mission Portsmouth on Brewery Lane was "the best workout studio ever. Offers variety of classes in a sterile environment. Friendly staff. Skilled instructors and a smoothie bar." The Refill Station on Bartlett Street, which opened earlier this year, was heralded by Robin. "We now know that most of the plastic we think we're recycling just ends up in landfills or polluting our waterways or worse," she wrote. "The Refill Station on Bartlett is one way we can use fewer plastic containers." Hello Lovely was commended by Brenda: "Owner is friendly, welcoming, helpful, kind, available. Consigned products are carefully chosen & arranged, priced reasonably, upscale without being overpriced. Business foundation to encourage women & help them put their best self forward is powerful for anyone who has the opportunity to shop there, even if not purchasing, Jen is a kind & compassionate business owner. She opened bravely during pandemic . . . I hope & pray her business progresses. She's a beneficial person for the local community, as is her business." The staff at Portsmouth Fabric Co was praised for being "always friendly and knowledgeable" by a reader while readers also gave kudos to Vault Solutions LLC, Runner's Alley, and the Domo Sushi Restaurant. Petey's Summertime Seafood in Rye was also praised by a reader.
