ROSEVILLE, MI — A Roseville mother was arrested Saturday in Roseville after her child ate heroin and quit breathing, Michigan State Police said. Officials said a state trooper was patrolling the area of Little Mack and Masonic on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. when a panicking mother stopped the officer. The mother told the officer her 18-month-old daughter quit breathing in a car she was driving, officials said. The trooper immediately called for medical personnel and performed a rubbing technique that enabled the child to start breathing again, officials said. Officials quickly determined the child ingested some heroin and gave her a dose of Narcan, police said. The child was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was upgraded from critical to stable condition Monday morning, police said. The 31-year-old mother was arrested after troopers found 15 doses of powder heroin inside red and black capsules on her, officials said. Troopers also said she tried to hide the capsules while officers were investigating. There was also a 3-year-old child in the car the woman was driving as well, officials said. That child was also taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure, officials said. Both children were expected to be placed in the guardianship of Child Protective Services, officials said. After troopers placed the woman in the Macomb County Jail, officials took her to a nearby hospital while officials continuing investigating. Officials will still give an investigator's report to the Macomb County Prosecutor this week, officials said.
