Men Stole $5100 Of Alcohol From Naperville Jewel: Cops

NAPERVILLE, IL — Two men have been charged in connection with a series of retail thefts that involved a total of $5100 in stolen alcohol at Jewel-Osco in Naperville. Donald Swope, 50, and Johnnie C. West, 54, both of Chicago, were charged with burglary and retail theft in connection with the incidents. Swope was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance and West with possession of drug paraphernalia. According to police, the thefts took place between Dec. 27 and Dec. 29 at the Jewel located at 127 E. Ogden Ave. Police say they were called to the location on three separate occasions for reports of retail theft, but added that Swope and West fled the scene prior to their arrival. Swope and West were taken into custody at the Jewel store on Dec. 29.
