Description

A two-day international, interdisciplinary conference focusing on the first decade of Prince's career. Message from the organizer (3/20/2020): In the light of the fast-moving external situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to postpone the conference until June 1-2, 2021. As you can imagine, this is due to many factors, but key amongst them is the safety of our attendees. As the next year progresses, there might be slight adjustments in the dates (perhaps June 2 and 3) but our overall plan is to hold the conference the week after the USA’s Memorial Day next year. If this to happen, we will let everyone know as soon as possible. --------- This two-day international, interdisciplinary conference will focus on Prince during the first decade of his career; a time which laid the foundation of Prince's creatively fruitful career and established him as both a musical and cinematic artist, as well as a complete entertainer. In addition to providing fresh perspectives on the creative and commercial emergence of Prince as an artist during the period 1978-1988, scholars will address Prince’s significant influence on popular culture during this time. Hosted by The School of Arts and Media, University of Salford, UK Organized by: Dr. Kirsty Fairclough, School of Arts and Media, University of Salford Kristen Zschomler, Minneapolis-based historian and writer, Sound History, LLC Please note that the Estate of Prince Rogers Nelson is not affiliated, associated or connected with the conference, nor has it endorsed or sponsored us.
