Atonal BeBop Rock Band seeks ‘Seasoned Musicians’

Meets

Ypsilanti MI

Description

I am a seasoned musician forming a new avant-gard band. I write the music, play Bb, alto, and bass clarinet and sing. I'm looking for saxophonists; soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone. I'm also looking for another clarinet, trombone, organ, bass and drums. Material will be in the form of original charts with free improvisation built in. Think: Eric Dolphy, Albert Ayler, Don Van Vliet, Charles Ives – all with a pinch of punk angst. Must read music well and stand capable of soloing ‘outside the realms of standard key & time’. Familiarity of the two wholetone scales and a sense of humor a plus. “What’s the plan, Stan…?” Cuneiform Records is interested in releasing my new CD (already recorded ) next year. The material on this CD is the material we'll be playing. Rehearsals will begin January 2023 in my basement rehearsal room w/PA and drum set, located on the west side of Ypsilanti. You will have already reviewed your charts in December. High hopes are to gig by the summer in the Detroit Metro area, Chicago, and Ohio - for starters. The idea is to have fun, enjoying unconventional music that turns people’s heads inside out. $ is good, but if that's your object, this show is not for you. If interested, please respond thru this Craig's List ad. Tell me about yourself, your experiences in music, and any questions you might have. If it sounds like you could be a good fit, I’ll send you a few MP3 examples of the music. You can then let me know if it sounds like something you could latch onto. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE ~ Laurence
