Description

Join us at the Kent Y to celebrate and honor Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with LiV's Table. Olivia (behind LiV's Table), who identifies as African American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and Asian American, has worked in the food industry for nearly ten years and started her business to serve both her passions: cooking and community. Share some delicious food and learn to make one of Olivia's favorite dishes! Hosts: Olivia Yuhashi, Founder of LiV's Table and Y Social Impact Staff There is so much we can learn from our Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. While the Y celebrated Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, the Y is also honoring Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (NHPIs) in August in recognition and solidarity with the NHPI community's efforts to establish a Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in August. The lumping of these diverse communities hides the unique identities of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities into a monolithic and hegemonic “Asian Pacific Islander” narrative. We hope you can join us in giving space to celebrate and honor our Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
