In this course, Egerton takes you on a deep dive into the process of creating a compelling, tantalizing, and overall ass kicking screenplay. What makes a screenplay work? How do you hook an audience? What makes for an emotional and thrilling narrative ride? The class covers hatching the idea, outlining the plot, understanding the 3-Act structure, and filling the pages with thrills, chills, laughs, and movie magic! What is the market looking for? How do we craft stories for our times? And once we have our screenplay, how do we get it made? Award-winning novelist and filmmaker Owen Egerton is the writer/director of several films including Mercy Black (Blumhouse, Netflix), Follow, and the horror-comedy Blood Fest (Rooster Teeth/Warner Media). He is also the author of a number of books including The Book of Harold the Illegitimate Son of God, How Best to Avoid Dying, and the PEN Southwest Book Award winner Hollow, which was named one of NPR’s Best Books of 2017. He’s a Texas Monthly’s podcast host, an instructor for Sundance Institute Collab, and one of the talents behind the Alamo Drafthouse’s long-running comedy show Master Pancake Theater. Egerton has also been voted Austin’s Best Author six times by readers of The Austin Chronicle. This workshop is perfect for writers venturing into their first screenplay or more experienced screenwriters looking for new insights and inspiration.
