Pediatric Patient Teaching on Diabetes Exclusively offered to Stanford Children's Health Registered Nurses. Knowledge about the pathophysiology, awareness of symptoms, treatment and management are necessary to safely care for these patients as well as provide education to the patient and family. DIABETES FOUNDATIONS: Basics to teach diabetes mellitus to patients and family. (Time: 9am -10:30am)DIABETES ADVANCED CARE: Technology & Innovation (Time: 11am-2pm)LEARNING OUTCOMESDiabetes Foundations By the end of this class, the nurse will be able to: Understand the pathophysiology related to diabetes.Describe the basic nursing considerations of caring for a patient with diabetesDescribe the technology available to patients with diabetes and how they can be used in the inpatient setting.Discuss the process for discharge education for a patient/family with new onset type 1 Diabetes.Diabetes Advanced Care Nurses will complete the class with: Advanced knowledge & skills for patients using technology for their diabetes careDemonstrate utilizing resources to troubleshoot issues with technologyAbility to coach families on the use of their technology in the inpatient setting vs the outpatient settingUnderstand where technology & innovation is goingDiscuss how implicit bias may affect the care of patients with DiabetesCONTINUING EDUCATIONCenter for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).
