Our workshops are presented by some of the best substance use trusted treatment providers in the greater Charleston area; recognizing that substance use disorder is a family disease and family recovery is necessary and possible. Our presenters’ services are highly sought after and several have waiting lists to be seen privately. WakeUp Carolina wanted to create a forum for the community to have education, discussions, and conversations with some of our trusted, professional partners in the field. Every family is unique, but all families share a bond that can be used to support one another during trying times. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution for helping a family member who is drinking too much, using drugs, or dealing with a mental illness, research shows that family support can play a major role in helping a loved one with mental and substance use disorders. The educational component of our family workshops is a critical beginning to the recovery process as much of your loved one’s behavior is part of an abnormal relationship cycling around substance use disorder. Families that have a clear understanding identifying the symptoms surrounding the disease of addiction and the tools necessary to move forward in the recovery process creating a solid foundation within the family system. Each presentation is unique to certain areas of expertise based on the presenters' profession as well as what has been shared with us regarding community interests and needs. All proceeds raised by our family workshops will go into our treatment scholarship program for young adults, individuals, and families battling the effects of substance use.
