Hey all, so I'm tired of complaining about the dullness and flakiness of the music scene in NY. I'm looking for people like me who are maybe self-taught or just figuring their skill level out and have had a hard time finding people to play with. We can meet and talk about music and maybe record some stuff or just make connections and hopefully form bands or give general encouragement. Being in a band is supposed to be fun, but most people in this city seem to have a knack for making people feel shitty and/or ghosting people because they don't play like Jimmy Page. Making music should be about actually collaborating, not auditioning every single person in the city until you find someone who sounds exactly like your last singer. Anyway, I have in mind the indie scenes of the 80s, pre-Nirvana, where people just met up locally and fucked around in basements and found their sound organically. Basically the Our Band Could Be Your Life vibe. I'm into bands like Beat Happening, Helium, Fugazi, Bikini Kill, Mudhoney, Unwound, Meat Puppets, The Dead C, etc., but I'm not even just talking about indie rock. Anyone into any type of music.
