MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — All 30 firefighter/paramedics in the Manhattan Bech Fire Department have received a first dose of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19, according to a city Instagram post. Most of them received it on Monday, with the remaining shots being administered yesterday, said Scott Hafdell, battalion chief for MBFD.
Wrote the fire department in its Instagram post, "Through the pandemic we have stuck with our mission of protecting and serving our community. We are pleased to have the ability to protect our firefighter/paramedics so that we may continue to respond to emergencies and keep our community safe. "
Hafdell told Manhattan Beach Patch this week, "Our paramedics are treating people with flu like symptoms every day. We just assume that they have COVID and wear the appropriate personal protective gear while rendering medical aid."
