Why does the 'Port Authority of NY and NJ' own buildings?

The PA of NY and NJ owns the World Trade Center and other buildings.....WHY? Shouldn't they be concerned about the bridges and tunnels that they service (and charge $16 to cross)? The PA makes so much mony that they buy buildings and pay their police (glorified toll collectors with guns) $200K+ a year.....whenever these bridge guards demand a raise they raise the toll on working New Yorkers and New Jerseyites....it a DISGRACE that needs correcting....Tell your elected officials to STOP this fleecing of working Americans...
