ORGANIZATION SNAPSHOT Steamfitters Local 601 is the union for HVAC and Refrigeration techs, Steamfitters and Pipeliners - installing comfort heating and cooling systems, grocery store refrigeration, food and beverage piping, gasoline pumps, pharmaceutical and chemical systems, compressed air and gases, hydraulic, and oil pipelines. Our members work in homes, hospitals, schools, offices, and manufacturing plants. You'll find us from Miller Brewery and Harley Davidson to the University of Wisconsin and the State Capital. We're 2700 members strong performing our work throughout 14 counties in Southeastern Wisconsin. POSITION SUMMARY Steamfitters is currently seeking two Shop Assistants, one for the Madison, WI training school location and one for the Milwaukee, WI training school location, to add to their team! This full-time opportunity offers a starting pay of $17.50 per hour, in addition to competitive health insurance benefits. The Shop Assistant will support the Training Coordinators with a wide range of daily maintenance and preparations for the Steamfitters Local 601 Training School, from managing inventory to performing various maintenance work. The Shop Assistant will also develop and maintain positive relationships with Union officers, Training School staff, office staff, instructors, and members of Local 601. Primary duties for this role and requirements are as follows: RESPONSIBILITIES Support training operations: - Operate various industry tools and equipment. (Training will be provided) - Deliver materials from site to site with a company vehicle. - Assist with classroom prep and lab setup. - Organize and maintain training inventory and shop supplies. - Assist with organized event setup and breakdown. Provide general facility maintenance: - Empty dust collectors and metal scrap bins, change air filters, and stock vending machines. - Maintain a clean and orderly shop environment. QUALIFICATIONS - A high school diploma or equivalent. - A clean driving record. - Prior experience with welding and mechanical understanding is a plus. - Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. - Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
