Pride Speaks is a recurring speaking series focused on various topics which impact our LGBTQIA+ community. Each session, Seattle Out & Proud Foundation invites experts and community members with lived experience to share their knowledge, reframe issues, and inspire action. After the panel discussion or talk, there's time for audience Q&A.
GLSEN reports that while each unique subset within the LGBTQIA+ community has different experiences, 86% of LGBTQIA+ students were harassed or assaulted at school. 84% of trans students felt unsafe at school because of their gender. 2 in 5 LGBTQIA+ students of color experience BOTH anti-LGBTQ and racist harassment at school. Our host Lisa Love, from Seattle Public Schools, will guide our panelists through an in-depth conversation around the current landscape queer youth are facing in our educational system - and the world. They will discuss how to create environments, specifically in educational environments, where LGBTQIA+ students feel safe and supported.
