Good Shepherd is happy to invite everyone in our community to join us for National Night Out at our Cedar Rapids campus! At least one representative from the Cedar Rapids Police Department will also make an appearance. ----- If you've never participated in National Night Out, keep reading for a description of this event from the Cedar Rapids Police Department: National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer and better places to live. National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. This will be the 39th anniversary for National Night Out and the 23rd anniversary for Cedar Rapids to participate in National Night Out activities. “National Night Out is an opportunity to meet your neighbors and work collectively to prevent crime,” says Chief of Police Wayne Jerman. “Neighbors who look out for one another and report suspicious activity truly make a difference in the community. Our police officers look forward to meeting with residents and continuing to build relationships with the people we serve.” On Tuesday, August 2, neighbors throughout Cedar Rapids are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement. Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, cookouts and various community events with safety demonstrations, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, and exhibits. Neighbors have to come together, join forces, and take a stand against crime in their neighborhoods. National Night Out is a great way to reinforce the relationship with neighbors and local police officers. You can help prevent crime in the community by getting involved.
