Description
Hello! I'm looking for a forever home and companion(s) for my Airedale, preferably ones that have experience with pets and/or caring for sick animals, as well as the time and financial means to do so. My (or rather my fathers) 4 year old black Airedale, Tinkerbell (Tinker for short) is in desperate need of a forever home with someone who can properly care for her and dedicate their time to doing so. She has a serious skin condition, and for a while I believed it to be a yeast infection, then something along the lines of seborrhea, but I am not 100% certain. I have tried tons and tons of different methods, from changing her diet, to giving her antibiotics and using special shampoos. I even took her to the vet, and almost $600 later they only gave me a temporary solution (and no definitive diagnosis). Less than 6 months later she was back to the way she was when I took her to the vet. Most everything you can think of, I have tried, I feel as though I have exhausted almost every possible avenue in trying to care for my fathers dog since he doesn't want to rehome her, despite the fact she cannot be properly cared for here. My father is over 60 years old and does not have the energy to take care of her in the way she needs to be. My mother, sister and I try to, but my mother is also older in age, and both my sister and I work full time and have other responsibilities outside of work. I have finally gotten to the point where I am making the decision to rehome her, as I would feel much better knowing she is with a family or person that has the time and financial means to take care of her properly. Vet visits, whatever medicine she might need that I might not be able to afford, all of that. It hurts me to know she's suffering despite everything I have tried, and that she could be somewhere where she will hopefully get the help she needs. Despite her skin condition, Tinker is a wonderful dog. I'm not kidding. She's sweet, playful, loves attention, and is great going on walks. She has a habit of chewing on herself, but I think anyone would want to scratch persistent itches, so I won't fault her for this. She needs someone who will have the patience to deal with that part of her personality as well. I don't want anyone reading this to think I do not love Tinkerbell, because I do; I've raised her from the time she was born until now, and if I knew how to deal with this myself, I would not be rehoming her. With all that being said, I have a few important things to add, I will not be budging on these things, and I need them to be understood: -I DO NOT WANT TINKERBELL TO BE PUT TO SLEEP. Her skin condition is not life threatening. It is hard to look at, and can seem like a very big hurdle to try and tackle, but it is not going to kill her. I know it is uncomfortable for her, but I really do feel like the right person could help her far better than I am able. She does not need to be put to sleep because of this and I do not want to give her to someone who will give up and go down that road. Please. -I would greatly prefer whoever adopts her to have the financial means and time to care for her. Please understand this; treating her will cost money, I will not beat around the bush about that fact. I have spent several hundred dollars trying to help Tinker, and if I had an endless stream of income then I most likely would not be rehoming her, as I would have the funds to do any and everything she might need done. -I cannot stress this enough, Tinker's skin condition is serious. Before she got sick, she was a beautiful dog, and in my eyes she still is. She's lean, has an adorable tail wag, and a very sweet face. However, I don't not want anyone who messages me to think this is just a little rash here and there. In the past we have bathed her, cut her fur down and dressed her scabs/wounds, but still, seeing her for the first time can be a lot to take in if you've never seen a dog with a severe case of seborrhea or anything like it. Please be understanding of this. -I would be so happy and thankful if whoever adopts her could send me updates about how she's doing. They do not have to be frequent. Every 6 months would be fine, I just would like to be able to tell my father that she is okay and loved in her new home. And hopefully on the road to recovery. Please only contact me if you are serious about adopting Tinker, I am going to be very picky about this because I don't want to hand her off to just anyone as if I am in a rush to get rid of her. I want Tinker to be loved and cared for, I do not want her to go to someone who can only do even less than I can. If you have any questions about Tinker or her condition, I will be more than happy to answer them. I am usually available by email from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thank you so much and if you do message me, I look forward to talking with you soon! -A
