Description

Press release from the City of Mentor: December 30, 2020 Last night, approximately 7,500 FirstEnergy customers in Mentor were affected by a power outage as the company performed emergency repairs to a substation in our city. The repair took longer than expected and naturally, resulted in a number of messages from concerned residents. It's impossible to predict when a power outage will occur, but the likelihood is certainly increased during winter months due to high winds and sometime heavy snows. Although no season is ideal for an outage, winter months pose additional concerns because of cold temperatures and weather conditions that can change in an instant. It's best to plan ahead and to be prepared. Please take the opportunity to read some tips provided by FirstEnergy and also review available communications tools to help report outages and stay abreast of their status. Power Outage Do's and Don'ts: How to Power Through Winter Storm Preparedness Communications Tools Please remember that electric service in the City of Mentor is provided by FirstEnergy. The fastest way to get power restored is to report all outages directly to FirstEnergy at 888-544-4877 or the FirstEnergy Storm Center. If you are without power, do not assume that a neighbor has reported it. Although, FirstEnergy may be aware of a large outage in an area, they cannot pinpoint every single home. Although the city may receive advance notification from FirstEnergy regarding planned outages, we do not receive detailed information during storm events – especially those that may impact the region. We will continue to provide outage information as it becomes available. This press release was produced by the City of Mentor. The views expressed here are the author's own.
