There's not a whole lot to be said about Dallas in August because of the heat. Oh, sure, school starts in August, but otherwise with no federal or state holidays, August exists as something to endure on our way to September. The Texas Triffid Ranch, Dallas's pretty much only carnivorous plant gallery, wants to rectify that vacancy with a series of early afternoon open houses showcasing unique enclosures filled with carnivorous plants from around the planet. Get out of the blast furnace outside and peruse and purchase North American (Sarracenia), Asian (Nepenthes), South American (Heliamphora), and Australian (Cephalotus) pitcher plants; sundews, Venus flytraps, butterworts, bladderworts, and Australian triggerplants, as well as a plethora of others. Admission is free and masks are highly recommended. For more information, directions, an overview of the Triffid Ranch, and more events, please check out http://www.texastriffidranch.com.
