Description

The Traditional Music Society is proud to present its annual World Music and Dance Showcase. This year we will have, as our special guest artist, Gerald Trimble. He will be performing with his group Jambaroque, In addition we will feature prominent flamenco dancer extraordinaire Tamara Carlson and her extraordinary Flamenco dance ensemble Ole! Our overall theme this year will trace the musical connections between the Caribbean Islands, Spain, North Africa and Turkey … exploring the songs forms and rhythms of the Moors and Berbers as they traveled throughout the Middle East and Southern Europe during the 800s AD. These musical concepts and ideas can still found be found in many musical genres of today. We will also feature Middle Eastern dancer Kimberly Guanciale with movement from Egypt and other areas of the Sahara. And as in our previous showcases we with present our community class ensembles, presentations … with music from Cuba, Haiti, and West African The Traditional Music Society is a not-for-profit arts in education organization dedicated to serving the Kansas City community through the exposure and teaching of music and dance from indigenous world cultures.
