The Magic of Mosaics: A hands-on introduction to mosaic arts suitable for beginners and those with some experience. This three hour class will include a brief survey of mosaics as an art form and then allow ample time to work on a project, either a wooden trivet/ plaque or a picture frame. Participants will be instructed in basic mosaic techniques including identifying appropriate designs, cutting with tile nippers, grinding to smooth edges, and gluing. At the end of the workshop, the instructor will provide a demonstration of mixing and applying grout and participants will leave with a bag of grout, along with their mosaic artwork, to apply at home after the glue has set (24 hours). Instructor: Lisa Horowitz is a volunteer teaching artist at Arts on the Block. She has worked in the area of mosaics for over 20 years and is passionate about the possibilities it holds.
