Description

DATE:  Saturday, July 30th 2022  (Raindate: Sunday, July 31st) TIME: 4pm-7:30pm  LOCATION:  KLT-protected land in Wilbur, temporarily known as Red Fox Ravine for the fox friend we have seen several times there. Exact location will be shared to those who RSVP.  DETAILS:  Join us under the sunset for musical evening at the Ravine! There will be a community gathering to share music, food, and stories. We'll Engage in some hands-on stewardship and community design visioning for this dramatic canyon-like environment in the City of Kingston, temporarily named Red Fox Ravine for the resident fox that we’ve been delighted to see. We are continuing to steward the land into greater plant diversity after many trees were cut down by the previous owner. For this event, we will be learning to identify and observing some of the plants found here and pulling/cutting back to make space for native and edible plantings. There will be a community gathering at the end of the stewardship event to share music and food. Globe hopping local legend Morgan O’Kane will be performing his great music and we’ll be hanging ravine style by the fire. Attendants are welcome to bring snacks to share, instruments, or any kind of gift offerings for the land. The KLT protected this land in January of 2020, shortly before the Northeastern Caves Conservancy protected a contiguous 8.2 acres (read more here: https://kingstonlandtrust.org/.../klt-protects-land... and here: https://hudsonvalleyone.com/.../kingston-land-trust.../). We’ll soon be sending out some exciting updates on KLT land protection and public access improvements in the Wilbur uplands, so stay tuned! Note on accessibility: In partnership with Northeastern Caves Conservancy and volunteers like you, we are working to ensure the KLT-protected land on Wilbur Ave is a safe and accessible ecological and recreational refuge. The trail to the ravine is a rough hiking trail along a slope. While we feel comfortable leading volunteers up this trail, please be advised that more work must be done to ensure its long-term safety and accessibility and only attend this event if you are comfortable walking in this kind of terrain. Let us know you'll be attending by replying to this email or emailing [email protected]  For more detail visit our event page on Facebook Red Fox Ravine Stewardship Gathering
