Description
5th Annual Iredell Walk for Recovery to celebrate National Recovery Month (IREDELL COUNTY) The 5th Annual Iredell County Walk for Recovery will be on Saturday, September 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Troutman’s ESC Park (338 North Avenue be- hind Town Hall). Rain date is September 24. Please sign up for FREE tickets to help us with head count for food purchasing! The event spreads the word about recovery, prevention, treatment and education assistance related to substance use and mental illness issues during National Recovery Month. This FREE, family-friendly event, featuring a concert by Pepper Lewis and The Big Chiefs (formerly The Audiophiles) with a wide variety of music from 1970s through today, will cele- brate the hope and healing that comes with recovery from substance use and mental illness with words from inspiring speakers and community leaders. Billy Buck of WAME Radio will be serving as emcee. Kids activities, a splash pad and play- ground, photo booth, art exhibit, and crafts will be available. A free catered dinner of bagged hamburgers, hotdogs, and side items, prepared by G4G Min- istries, will also be served. Water is provided through the generosity of Niagara Bottling. Many vendors associated with mental health, substance misuse, recovery, and other helping agencies will be on hand, and a "walk" around the event area visiting the vendors with your punchcard will make attendees eligible for prize drawings! Bring your bag chairs, lawn blankets, sunscreen, kids' swimsuits, and towels and get ready for an afternoon of fun and inspiration! This year’s theme is "RECOVERY IS FOR EVERYONE: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community." Now in its 32nd year, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we celebrate improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. Each September, Recovery Month works to promote and support new evidence-based treat- ment and recovery practices, the emergence of a strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make re- covery in all its forms possible. The observance will work to highlight inspiring stories that help thousands of people from all walks of life find the path to hope, health, and wellness. CONTACTS: Jerry M.
