Become part of the synthetic biology revolution this Fall semester! And "Fall is Free" at Laney College! Learn the newest tools that drive innovation from biotech leaders. Get hands-on experience with genetic engineering, cultivated meat (we grow chicken muscle cells in our lab!), protein purification, and biomaterials. Join projects in our lab with our industry partners and get paid internships. No lab experience? Start with Bio 78 “Applied Biomanufacturing Technology” to get caught up on the basics of working in a lab. The lab meets in person on Wednesday nights at 6 pm. All our courses are hybrid and therefore ideal for working folks. Labs meet at night and the online portion is asynchronous to fit with any schedule. Also, consider taking our Synthetic Biology Work Experience course BIO 484A with Ron Shigeta, Ph.D. Ron is a serial biotech entrepreneur and investor with over 10 years of experience in synthetic biology and food tech startups. He co-founded Indie Bio and Wild Earth. Ron’s course gives you the space to focus on your own projects under his guidance. Biotech is the second largest job market in the Bay Area. Oakland's Laney College is a leader in biotech education especially in the synthetic biology field.
