Description
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Tuscaloosa County Board of Education will be accepting applications through Jan. 7, 2021 to fill an open school board seat left vacant following the death of District 7's Bill Copeland earlier this month. The application window will close at noon on the deadline date and the new school board member will be selected by current board members.
The candidate selected will then fill the remainder of the current term, which runs through November 2024.

Copeland passed away at his home on Dec. 14 at the age of 79. He was first elected to the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education in 2006, and would go on to win re-election in 2012 and 2018.
For consideration, applicants must be a registered voter in the board's District 7 and have resided in the district for a year or more by the date of the appointment. The individual selected must also not be employed by the Tuscaloosa County School System or have any felony convictions on their record.
To be considered, TCSS says applicants must submit an application packet that includes a personal data sheet, a statement of reasons and qualifications for seeking the nomination, and a detailed resume of work experience, public service history, civic contributions in the community of District 7, and prior supportive public education activities.
Applicants are required to email the packet to board attorney Ray Ward via email at [email protected]
