Join us at our 28th Hispanic Heritage Dinner Celebration September 14 at 6pm! We will celebrate our work supporting the Latino community in Oregon and SW Washington. On September 14 we will hear and be inspired by our keynote speaker; Beaverton School District's Superintendent, Dr. Gustavo Balderas. Dr. Gustavo Balderas recently joined the Beaverton School Districts as superintendent and is a nationally recognized educator known for his equity-driven leadership. His numerous awards include the 2021 Champion for Equity Award from the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents, 2020 Oregon Superintendent of the Year Award from the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators, and 2020 National Superintendent of the Year Award from the American School Superintendents Association. Dr. Balderas has served as superintendent since 2012 in various states and school districts. Dr. Balderas received his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Oregon University, his Master of Science degree from Portland State University, and his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Oregon. Dr. Balderas is a first-generation son of Mexican immigrants who worked in the agricultural fields of California, Oregon and Washington. “I understand first-hand some of the barriers that students face in Beaverton schools — those in poverty and those navigating a new language and culture. These experiences will help me connect with students and families and help identify ways to meet the needs of our students furthest from educational justice.” We will also hear from our Executive Director, Carmen Castro, and other board members who will be recognizing outstanding individuals & organizations from both Oregon and SW Washington with our ¡Bravo Awards! This year, you will not only be able to bid for great prizes during our annual Silent Auction, but you will also have the opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket for two Alaska Airlines coach roundtrip tickets! Each main cabin ticket is valued at $1,250. #makingflyingmatter We look forward to celebrating with everyone, Nos Vemos Pronto! *HMC Members make sure to use the promo code to purchase your ticket at the member price.
