Description

This book will be read in four parts over four sessions. In honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Topsfield Historical Society is inaugurating a “Reading the Revolution” book club. Our first reading will be Woody Holton’s Liberty is Sweet: The Hidden History of the American Revolution. A sweeping reassessment of the American Revolution - its beginnings, the revolts that led up to the Declaration of Independence, the military battles, the peace treaty and the Constitution - Liberty is Sweet shows how the founding fathers were influenced by the freedom struggles of overlooked Americans, including artisans and farmers, enslaved Africans, the Native Nations, women and religious dissenters.
