Description

Small Business Workshop History In 2020, we received a $25,000 grant from Render Capital to give five for-profit businesses a $5,000 unrestricted investment. We hosted our first six-month cohort of twenty businesses with five to graduate. Render Capital has remained connected to those businesses and recently provided a networking night and free headshots for those who participated. With the success from our first cohort our second cohort attendance more than doubled in size. Our first meeting we had over 80 local Black-businesses in one space! With the high-turn out in mind we set some lofty fundraising goals. We were able to graduate and fund fifteen local Black-women owned businesses unrestricted checks of $2,500 a piece. I raised almost $40,000 without a grant, and it was hard work! Small Business Workshop Updates Due to lack of funding we are switching up our approach to how we provide free business information and funding! Please join us at Leadership Louisville (707 West Main Street) on: Thursday July 21, 2022 from 7-9 PM to discuss starting a nonprofit Thursday August 18, 2022 from 7-9 PM to discuss opening a for-profit business Thursday September 15, 2022 from 7-9 PM for Speed Networking and Fundraising There is no attendance commitment and there will be no graduation from these courses. Attending a session guarantees you a one-on-one business assessment and resource packet. Participants who attend a session will be incentivized with a free meal, childcare provided, and an opportunity to win $1,000. Pocket Change Updates At Pocket Change we have a lounge area with a variety of seating; three couches, large bean bag chair, bungee chairs. In this area we have tons of literature, two resource binders that break down step by step how to create (1) a non profit and (2) an LLC. This area has a television, board games, and multi device charging station. We offer free wifi and free full color printing (within reason). We have a coffee station with a coffee and tea maker and we also have an air fryer in this area. We also have a small fridge and freezer! Don’t forget to leave your business cards. Our free coworking space has a meeting table that seats 4-6, a high cocktail table that seats two, two rolling desks for flexibility, and an artist table that leans up for comfortable creating. The art table also has a starter kit of materials that range from color pencils to crayons. We plan to have vinyl for sale in-house. We are also making space for a sublimation printer! In this free coworking space is our brand new heat press, five laptops, phone tripod, large and mini ring light, coworking desk with free space and brand new silhouette cutting machine. On this coworking desk you can find an interviewing microphone, a Polaroid camera kit and silhouette support materials. We have a private area with a podcast set up as well. How can you get involved?
