Greatest Story Ever Told - Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of 8/27/72Crazy Horse PresentsALL AGES Naming a favorite Grateful Dead show is like picking your favorite constellation. In a galaxy of stars, why does one shine more brightly than the rest? When the transitive nightfall of diamonds sweeps the senses, a cellular activation resonates to the core. On 8/27/72 at the Old Renaissance Fairgrounds in Veneta, Oregon, the Dead channeled a performance that transcended the earthly realm. Entwined with the vibe of Ken Kesey & the Merry Pranksters, it was a psychedelic, cultural phenomenon unfolding in the biblical heat. It was a watershed confluence of luminaries which in hindsight was a final hurrah for the spirit of the 60s. Some paid $3.50; many paid nothing. It was a benefit for the Springfield Creamery manifesting into a piece of history for which the term “legendary” is far too pedestrian. Exactly 50 years to the day, we present this event as an offering of gratitude and an expression of awe for a performance which rattles the corridors of the space time continuum. We have gathered a group of intrepid music makers to conjure their own version of that day’s interstellar magic at the most fitting venue Nevada City has to offer – Rosebud Ranch. If you’ve been fortunate enough to attend previous shows here such as Band Beyond Description and magicgravy, you know how special this place is. You can’t help but feel better once setting foot upon this hallowed ground. Meet your musical shamans: Jonny Mojo – guitar/vox (Band Beyond Description, Achilles Wheel, Jambassadors), Todd Gardner – guitar/vox (Saints of Circumstance), Danny Eisenberg – keys (Mother Hips, Anders Osborne, Ryan Adams), Murph Murphy - bass (Stu Allen & Mars Hotel, Band Beyond Description), Ezra Lipp – drums/vox (Phil Lesh & Friends, ALO) and guest vocalist, Tim High. Hopefully we won’t get the 105-degree heat wave they had on that day, but we certainly will be plugged in to the splendor of nature and the power of music reverberating from the past to the present. Addressing the elephant in the room…no, this 8/27 will not have a naked pole guy (nor a water truck spraying the crowd), but we feel inclined to give a nod to that mythical creature who became the de facto mascot of Sunshine Daydream. Ken Babbs, if you’re reading this, you are cordially invited to return to your role as announcer. Rosebud is an all-ages venue in a spacious outdoor setting not far from the Crazy Horse. Shortly after purchasing tickets, you will be contacted via email with the location of the venue and additional specifics. Disclaimer: Obviously we pray it's not an issue, but in the event of smoke from wildfires impacting our ability to healthfully enjoy the great outdoors at the time of the show, we'll have no choice but to move this to the Crazy Horse Saloon. Should that happen, you will have the option to request a refund. Otherwise all sales are final.
