Description
You're invited to Part Two of NEW's Summer Celebration: SILENT DISCO! This event is all about the act of expressing joy. Joy is revolutionary - especially at a time when oppression and hate are clawing their way back into our society. It is an act of defiance to find joy, pleasure and happiness in the face of threat and harm. There is power in saying "you will not break us." And what better way to express joy than moving to some great tunes with your friends and family? Join us outside at The NEW Center on Thursday, July 21st as we release and rejoice as a community. RSVP today to help us get things ready for you. And see the FAQ below for more information. WE CAN’T WAIT TO BOOGIE WITH YOU! Silent Disco FAQWhat's a silent disco? It's a dance party that happens in headphones. Everyone at the party is provided a pair of headphones that are connected to the same DJ. You can dance socially-distant from others - the range is the size of a football field. You can keep the music at a comfortable volume for your ears. And you can change to one of three (3) stations if you're not loving a particular vibe - which gives you a chance to go dance with the folks who are on your wavelength. Who's invited?Everyone in the NEW community is welcome and wanted at this event. More specifically, if... You work for (or with) an organization that's worked with NEW - at all, everYou work or volunteer for ANY nonprofit or mission-driven organization in SE MichiganAnd especially if you receive services or participate in programs led by ANY nonprofit or mission-driven organization in SE Michigan...you and your family are invited. People of all ages are welcome and wanted. How much are tickets?Tickets are free! We want this event to be as accessible as possible to everyone in our community. If you are willing and able, we welcome your donation to provide greater access to others. Thank you for making sure everyone is able to join us for the fun - especially our community's most marginalized,. NEW's vision is of VIBRANT communities, it's a silent DISCO, and we're expressing revolutionary JOY - so that's the dress code, interpret it however feels authentic to you. Our only request is that you keep it PG - this is an all ages event. What should I leave at home? Please leave alcohol and substances at home so we can create a safe and inclusive environment for all. Otherwise, we invite you to bring what you need to be comfortable dancing while your worries away. Why a Silent Disco? We're getting excited about The NEW Center's upcoming transformation and we can't hold it in any longer! If you haven't yet heard, The NEW Center - our nonprofit hub in Ann Arbor - is getting a makeover in the next couple years. The transformed building will bring people and organizations together in ways it doesn't now*. It's also going to be a space that inspires and activates the diversity in our communities. A silent disco feels like an out-of-the-box way to get us all excited about what can be possible in the future. And to rejoice in the power of our collective despite all we've been through since we last got together in 2019. It's admittedly something different for us, but we hope you'll get excited and come join the fun. *You can learn more about the outdoor event space and other incredible plans for the renovation at our event on August 11th! Save the date now and RSVP through this same Eventbrite. About the Summer Celebrations“Relationships between people and organizations are essential to widespread transformation.” This is one of the beliefs at the center of NEW’s theory of change - our roadmap to our vision. And yet, its been three (3) full years since the NEW community gathered in-person. Now, after far too long apart, we’re ready and excited to bring our beloved community back together. Join us for three (3) events this summer where we’ll relax, eat, dance, vision, sing, play and BE in community. Also save the date for Part Three on August 11th as we kick off the NEW Center Transformation project! More details to come.
