Groundskeeper/Maintenance Function: Responsible for retreat center landscape, gardens & light maintenance duties Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with 30-minute lunch break NOTE: Some evenings and Saturdays as needed. Reports to: Director of Facilities Salary: Hourly $12.00 – $13.00 + benefits (health & life insurance, PTO, Job Responsibilities: Assess the plants at Summers Mill Retreat for health and appearance Participate in regular garden chores including the watering, pruning, and movement of plants Install new projects, including loading and unloading materials, preparing planters and planting areas, transplanting a variety of plants, etc. Mowing, weed eating, tree trimming, and other grounds keeping duties Oversee irrigation of grass, trees, and plants Monitor and treat plant health problems Work together with Director of Facilities / Director of Operations on plant installation Operate and care for power and hand tools and equipment Keep inventory and perform maintenance on tools and supplies Maintain cleanliness and quality of work area Display strong attention to detail. This position will also cross train with maintenance department to assist with set ups and other maintenance duties at the retreat assisting guests Any additional duties assigned by the Facilities Director Physical and Sensory Requirements: Ability to read, write and converse in English Ability to communicate with employees, guests, vendors, support and others Ability to remain calm and composed under stress Bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, prolonged standing Mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements) Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgments/decisions Desired Education, Experience, and Traits: High School degree or GED preferred Previous experience and knowledge in horticulture, landscape architecture, irrigation, and/or training preferred but not required Commitment to Summers Mill Retreat and Conference Center’s Christian mission and vision Strong teamwork skills Exhibits effective communication skills Exhibits regular and punctual attendance
