String Trimmers - Grounds Maintenance Opening: Immediate Location: Los Angeles National Cemetery Client: Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs Wages: $16.42/Hour + $4.75 H&W Status: Non- exempt Hours of Work: up to 40 hours/week Union position with benefits Union benefits: • Medical • Pension • Free Online College - two years • Vacation • Holidays • Sick days We are looking for an individual to provide on-site support services for our Los Angeles National Cemetery Client. • Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, aerates and waters landscaped areas; weeds, prunes, mulches, feeds, fertilizes, irrigates, and applies pesticides to plants, shrubs, and trees. • Trim and mow banks and fringe areas as well as property trees and shrubs Cut and remove dead plants and trees • Prepares soil for planting, transplants seedlings, shrubs, and trees • Corrects or reports hazardous conditions • Performs preventive maintenance to equipment and tools and makes minor adjustments and repairs; reports the need for major repairs and maintenance • Maintain a clean and organized work area • Ensure that all work is performed, and any waste products disposed of, in accordance with State and Federal law • Adhere to regulatory, departmental, and company policies/procedures in an ethical manner • Drives pick-up trucks and other motorized equipment. Employees must maintain the skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate the following equipment and machines used in the performance of this job: • Motorized vehicles for groundskeeping purposes, hand and power tools such as mowers, string and stick trimmers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, chain saws, rakes, shovels, hoes, brooms, and other maintenance tools. Job Requirements: • Experience with Landscaping and Irrigation desired but not required. • Physical Requirements: Must be able to work outdoors, stand, stoop, and walk for 8 hours while performing job duties. • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
