ATLANTA, GA — As the final hours of 2020 approach, this was a year many of us in Atlanta and across the country are glad to leave behind — but a year most of us will never forget. Stories about the coronavirus pandemic and elections took over Patch's newsroom, but there were plenty of other stories that Patch readers found interesting this year. Many Patch readers wanted to know how to swim with sharks at the Georgia Aquarium, which was announced in late August as part of the aquarium's expansion. We heard the unfortunate news that "Little Women Atlanta" star Ashley Ross, known as Ms. Minnie, died in a car crash. Then there was the Atlanta teen who made insulated cat shelters for LifeLine Animal Project. Plus, in true 2020 fashion, there was a story about a 6-foot alligator spotted just south of Atlanta. Another story featured an Atlanta couple receiving a voter registration application for their dead cat. Patch rounded up a few of the top stories of 2020 as listed below. Thank you for reading, and we look forward to what 2021 will bring.
