The Small Press Expo is the preeminent showcase for the exhibition of independent comics, graphic novels, and alternative political cartoons. The 2022 festival takes place Saturday Sept 17th, 11am-7pm & Sunday Sept 18th, Noon-6pm, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. SPX 2022 will showcase over 500 creators, 270 exhibitor tables, and over 20 programming slots to entertain, enlighten, and introduce attendees to the amazing world of independent & small press comics and graphic novels. All members of your party must show proof of vaccination or negative covid test dated within 48 hours before they can receive their badge to enter the show. Masks are required indoors unless eating & drinking. Thank you for your understanding, and helping to keep our SPX community healthy! Saturday from 5PM to 7PM in the White Oak Room, there will be a special multi-media presentation by graphic novelist Leela Corman and famed punk musician Thalia Zedek. It will be a fundraiser for SPX's Graphic Novel Gift Program, that gifts graphic novels to library systems that serve under-privileged patrons. Tickets are $10 extra if you buy a pass to SPX, and $20 if you just want to see Thalia and Leela's performance. How can I vote for the Ignatz Awards? You can sign up on the SPX web site to get a ballot emailed to you when the nominees are announced in mid-August. What are my transportation options? For easy access to SPX via the DC Metro, go to the White Flint stop on the Red Line and there you are, about 1 block from the hotel! What are my parking options? There is a FREE WEEKEND parking garage 1 block due East from the White Flint Metro stop at the corner of Chapman and Marinelli, about a 4 minute walk to the hotel.  There is a parking garage behind the hotel with hourly or full day rates.  More info about parking is available on our site.
