SYMBIOS ecotecture is looking for construction workers to join our team! Work involves a mix of construction and landscaping installation tasks related to creating living rooftops, rooftop gardens and green walls environments. DESCRIPTION: SYMBIOS as a company specializing in installations of living building systems. The Design/Build department is charged with the design, construction and maintenance of projects that vary in scale and size on commercial & residential buildings. • Living roofs & rooftop gardens, roof decks, patios & other amenities • Indoor green walls & outdoor vertical gardens • Bio-retention planters & rain gardens • Courtyard gardens & art installation involving plants • Alternative water systems for irrigation • Rainwater harvesting, greywater, water re-use systems. EMPLOYMENT: schedule • Part-time,16 hrs. minimum commitment up to 40 hrs, full time. • Monday thru Friday; 7-to-9 hour work days, varies • Some flexibility exists with scheduling of workdays for part-time position • Part time position may lead to full-time employment and/or position advancement WORK LOCATIONS: areas Primary – Northbay & East Bay • Sonoma, Marin, Napa counties • San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland Secondary – Greater San Jose • South Bay – Los Altos, Mountain View, Los Gatos, etc. • Sacramento – greater metro area, Roseville, Davis, etc. Long Distance – overnight stay required (*accommodations & travel $ provided) • Los Angeles – greater metro area, Burbank, Aliso Viejo, etc. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: skill level – install technician • 1+ year prior construction related experience • 1+ year prior landscape/gardening related experience • Driver’s License and clean driving record • Own a vehicle for transportation to various job sites and/or company’s office (ride share opportunities) *Note: Passionate individuals with less experience feel free to apply (qualified applicants will take precedence however) TASK REQUIREMENTS: may include Installations – new projects • Building materials: living roof components, matting, filter fabric, metal edging, etc. • Building materials: decking, benches, trellises, planters, etc. • Irrigation: piping & components; valves, sprayheads, drip line, filters, etc. • Landscape materials: organic soil products, gravel, etc. • Planting: various types; seeding, small plugs, up to 4” & 1 gal pots. Maintenance – existing projects • Weeding, pruning & deadheading • Irrigation system, monitoring, testing, winterizing, repairing • Fertilizing and amendment applications General – new & existing projects • Comfortable working at heights above the ground level – i.e., roofs, exterior facades • Working on and around lifting equipment (scissor lifts, high lifts, etc.) • Comfortable using ladders, scaffolding and/or using fall safety protection gear • Knowledgeable of best practices in workplace safety (or willing to learn) • Ability to lift heavy and maneuver bulky construction materials • Able to endure a wide range of physical activities • Able to endure outdoor weather conditions (all seasons) • Work in open air conditions on the exterior of buildings, i.e., roofs, walls. DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES: • Commitment to being a team member for an extended period of time (1 year +) • Ability to work in a team environment or at times independently • Willing to work at distant project sites with stayover in provided housing (occasionally) • Willingness to learn new construction techniques and skills • Self-motivated and dependable • Finds hard work rewarding • Maintains positive attitude HEALTH: covid • In respect to the health and safety of our team members, the following policies are in effect to create a safe and comfortable work condition. • No masks or other PPE required if vaccinated (proof required).
