Description
Diversity In Aquatics (DIA) Open Water Swim Competition, Reach the Rock 2022, is an equity-centered swim for swimmers of color. We recognize communities of color, specifically, those of the African Diaspora, have lawfully, culturally, and systematically been removed from participating in aquatic programming. Reach the Rock 2022 is D.I.A’s first open water swim event promoting opportunities for healthy lifestyles, water safety, environmental awareness, and representation of diverse people in aquatics. The organizers of the event use an equity lens at each stage of planning, organizing, and executing. On Friday, August 12th, swimmers will receive a registration packet with race information, a Reach the Rock T-shirt, Cap, and Towel. During the early registration day on Friday, August 12th, swimmers will be given instructions for race day and have the opportunity to ask questions. On the morning of August 13th, 2022, the open water swim will be held in the San Francisco Bay. Swimmers will be transported by water taxi to the starting point underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and will reboard the water taxi after completing the roughly 2-mile swim to Alcatraz Island. The water taxi will drop swimmers off at the Dolphin Swim Club for a post-swim meal.
