How farmers (yes farmers) have taken the vine and shaped it into modern vineyards. We've been doing it for at least a few thousand years. And one of the most beautiful and underrated is Portugal. Their vineyards with their trellises are a wonder to behold and their wines, while not as well known as their brethren, their time is now. Come to Wine Republic and enjoy new varietals like Bical and Fernao Pires. Styles you may not be familiar with like Vinho Verde and pet nats, can give many sparkling wines a run for their money. Quinta do Regueiro Trajadura Alvarinho, 2020 Quinta do Regueiro makes great wines from their Vinho Verde area vineyards, located a short 10 minute drive from the town of Melgaço. As the name indicates, this is a blend of Alvarinho (a specialty grape of the sub-zone) and Trajadura. This is a fresh wine with delicious lemon acidity as well as a tang of orange zest. Its bright character is enhanced by the sliced apple crispness that goes right through this wine.  Joao Pato Bairrada Vinho Branco, 2020 This white from Maria Joao Pato (aka Duckman) is 85% Bical and 15% Fernão Pires from 20-year-old vines grown on sandy soils. There's a short maceration on the skins, but not to arrive at an orange wine, more for texture and grip. Fermentation is in oak and stainless steel, and aging is in French oak for about 6 months before bottling. Loads of tropical fruit and white flowers. Slightly hazy and some sediment due to being unfiltered. Bairrada, Portugal Bojo do Luar ‘Luar Rosa’ Vinho Rosé, 2020 Bojo do Luar ‘Luar Rosa’ is a rosé natural wine made from 60% Tinta Cão, 30% Vinhão, 10% Loureiro, 10% Other varietals. The two red grapes (Tinta Cão & Vinhão) were sourced from a small producer practicing organic viticulture in the Vinho Verde Region, located in Marco de Canavese. Since Vinhão is highly pigmented, the maceration time was kept at a minimum. Spontaneous fermentation was done in concrete and stainless steel with chestnut flowers and combined with 10% Loureiro (same as Doralice) to add zest and other aromatic notes. Minimal SO2 added at bottling (30ppm). Unfiltered. Bojo do Luar, Brut Pét-Nat ‘Luiza’ Rosé, 2021 
Blend of 80% Espadeiro and 20% Loureiro. Natural methods and ancient techniques bring this Pét-Nat that “Wow” factor! Bright, zippy, floral, and with notes ripe red fruit. Wonderful aromatics tingle the nose. The wine is light and fresh with only a light carbonation. Organic and biodynamic farming practices.
