Sesshin at One River Zen
Sesshin means “touching the heart-mind” and is what being in retreat is all about.
Retreats are a time to take a step back from the habits of our daily life and connect with our authentic self. In doing so, we deepen our spiritual practice, renew our intentions, and are able to prioritize our commitments and approach life openly.
Every day in sesshin is special. We practice meditation several hours per day, eat simple vegetarian meals together, enjoy dharma talks and one-on-one discussions with a teacher, and (weather permitting) get outside to commune with nature.
Our retreat center is housed in a beautiful Queen Anne Victorian built in 1890, situated on the scenic banks of the Illinois River, a short ride from Starved Rock State Park.
