From 2015 to 2020, youth from the Young Warriors program dedicated themselves to assisting in reestablishing Tia Chucha’s Cafe. They participated in envisioning a new and improved cafe that aims to give access to health-conscious and plant-based ancestral recipes.
During the pandemic, the Social Warrior Chef program was established to continue this work and the developmental, gastronomical, and culinary momentum that began in 2015. For the past two years, a committed group of young people, all current women, has worked closely with community chef, Wendy Centeno of Guayaba Kitchen to develop a seasonal plant-based menu.
This menu will be used to launch a Deli at the current Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural location that will become the stepping stone toward reestablishing the cafe and social enterprise that teaches, trains, and employs youth in our community.
