The San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society always has several orphaned turtles and tortoises anxious to go to good homes. All are healthy, a few have less than perfect shells but they all make great low maintenance pets.
Take a minute to read the caresheets on the website, sdturtle.org to determine if this is something you'd like to get involved in. If so, please send me pictures of the area you'd be keeping the turtle/tortoise in and we'll go from there.
Most in need of adoption are Sulcata Tortoises, red eared sliders and box turtles. However, there are other species available to those with experience.
San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society is a 501c3 non-profit with 600+ members that's been rescuing and adopting out chelonians since 1973. It's a wonderful and effective organization run by volunteers that are captivated by these unique creatures.
