The SunJams team is excited to host music in Orinda for this summer fundraiser. We are proud to be partnering with local musicians and this line-up will feature several genres to appeal to members of our community. From Rock to World Music to Latin Jazz, we have it all. Please join us in the Orinda Community Park for an afternoon of fun and entertaining music, bring a picnic blanket and bring your family and friends. We support music education in elementary schools, and local musicians are an essential ingredient of an education program. We are partnering with Jack Hughes, from the Miramonte High School Leadership Program (tech commision) in bringing you this event. We sincerely hope that this will be the first of many such events in this venue. We would love to have your feedback about any aspect of your experience with this event. Musicians Bob Crawford- Bob Crawford was born in Long Beach California, and raised in the Bay Area with his 12 brothers and sisters. Primarily self taught, he started playing in bands with his saxophone playing twin brother during their college years. After graduating, Bob gained experience in various Bay Area ensembles, playing jazz, funk, Latin and Brazilian music. In 2001 he was offered the keyboard chair in Michael Franti’s band Spearhead. Bob logged multiple tours throughout the United States, Australia, Canada, Europe and Japan. Bob also recorded on several of Spearhead’s albums and appeared on a number of international TV programs with the band. Also with Spearhead, Bob found himself performing with a who’s who of international stars, including Tre Anastasio, Me’Shell NDegeOcello, Chuck D, Ani DiFranco, Jack Johnson, Robert Randolph, Woody Harrleson, Mixmaster Mike, as well as members of Ozomatli, Zap Mama, and Galactic. Bob took a break from extensive touring to spend time with his family, and to pursue his own musical vision. Now residing in the East Bay, Bob continues to perform and record with a variety of artists, including Fito Reinoso y su Ritmo y Armonia, Mazacote, Boca De Rio, Greg Errico (Sly and the Family Stone), Ray Obeido, Pete Escovedo, Lee Oskar (War), Lenny Williams and Mic Gillette (Tower of Power), Pedrito Calvo (Los Van Van) Richard Bean (Malo), The New York Gypsy Allstars, as well as members of El Chicano, Santana, Tierra, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and many more. Recently, Bob has served as the musical director for the Latin Kings Allstar band, which features members from Tower of Power, Malo, and The Whispers. He has worked with the fantastic Alayo Dance Company and the Stagebridge Theatre Group. He has also worked for two years with the San Francisco Symphony’s “Adventures in Music” program, bringing music to every public elementary school in San Francisco. Bob also leads his own piano trio, and is founding member of the latin jazz-funk band Machina Sol. Gari Hegedus and Faisal Zedan Gari Hegedus ( Gary Haggerty) is an accomplished performer and composer who specializes in string instruments including the oud, saz, violin, mandolin, setar, mandocello, and tarhu. His repertoire focuses on music from the classical and folk genres of Turkey, Greece, and the Arab world. He has composed many instrumental pieces following the models of music from these old traditions. Born in Syria, Faisal Zedan grew up impassioned with the derbakki and has continued to master Arab percussion instruments such as the riqq and duhulla. He covers a wide range of classical, urban, and folk music from Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, and the Arabian peninsula. He also performs other Middle Eastern and European styles of music. In addition to performing and teaching drumming, Faisal is involved in performances for Arab and Middle Eastern dance forms. We simply ask that you do whatever you feel is best to keep safe, respect that others may have other practices related to distancing and masking. Tickets Your ticket includes a $10 tax deductible donation, and all proceeds will go towards funding music education in under-resourced elementary schools throughout the Bay Area. Your donation will be paying for new instruments, school trips and one-on-one music lessons for underprivileged youth throughout our community. We look forward to spending a beautiful afternoon celebrating good friends, great food and beautiful music! TIME The show will begin at 2:30 PM. The music will end by 7:30 PM. MUSIC Sound system during the show and recorded music in between sets is provided by our partner and wizard DJ Jose Ruiz and his outfit, MundoMuzik www.facebook.com/MundoMuzik TRANSPORTATION For guests driving to the event, self parking on Orinda Way is available. Additional parking in the mall across the street is restrictred. Please DO NOT park in the RiteAid parking lot. The Bank of America lot and the Post Office parking spaces are good options, if needed. For guests using public transportation, the park is 0.6 mile from the Orinda BART station on the Pittsburgh/Bay Point Line. FOOD & BEVERAGE La Santa Torta food truck will be part of our event, and you can pre-order their birria tacos (see VIP ticket), or get the food you want directly from the truck. Either way you will love this aded bonus and thank us if this is your first timing tasting their food, or maybe you will come for the food if you already know, stay for our music! We encourage you to bring your own non-plastic bottles to the event, want to minimize plastic use in general. TICKETS General admission tickets purchased in advance include all costs for compensating our highly valued artists. You are welcome to bring your own seating or a picnic blanket, as this is an oudoor concert. We will also have some picnic blankets available. DONATIONS Ticket prices are designed to allow us to compensate our musicians - we believe in supporting local artists and hope you all do too! We encourage and solicit additional donations. If you feel as strongly as we do about the impact of music education, please consider investing in someone's musical future. We will be accepting donations on the day of the event in the form of cash, check, or credit card payable to Sunjams Productions (a 501c3).
