Join Playback Memphis for a special performance of Mental Health Matters. This performance is presented in partnership with Humanities Tennessee, the Kindred Place and Youth Villages. Following the performance, there will be a Talk Back that allows time for reflection and dialogue about the power of the arts to strengthen community well being, mental health, and social healing facilitated by Jennifer Balink of a Kindred Place. Participants include Virginia Murphy, Playback Memphis Founder and Executive Director, and Chesney Snow, Drama Desk award winning, New York based theater artist, poet, educator, and premiere human beatbox/ vocal percussionist. The concept of a Playback performance is simple — an audience member shares a reflection, moment, or true story from their lives and then watches that story played back on stage by a team of professional actors, musicians, and dancers. Performances draw a multi-generational audience, an amazingly, diverse cross-sector of the community. Don’t have a story to tell? Feel free to participate or simply sit back and watch the magic unfold. Playback unlocks healing, transformation, and joy— one story at a time. Money should not be a barrier for participation.
