Description

I can teach you to knit! With a pair of sticks and some string (and a bit of experience) you can construct warm sweaters, stylish hats, durable socks, or practical bags. Knitting is an ancient technology that has seen countless variations and techniques. When I was learning to knit, I found it difficult to see what was happening in tutorial videos, and it was very hard to make sense of pictures. I believe it's easiest to learn how to knit when an experienced knitter is there to show you. Learning knitting is mostly finding the easiest way to tie the knot we call the "knit stitch" as well as its opposite, the "purl stitch". However there are a few other essential techniques involved in making something you can wear. The goal of the first lesson is to teach you: -Slip knot -Cast on the first row -Garter Stitch (Knit every row) -Stocking Stitch (Alternate Knit and Purl rows) -The stretchy Rib Stitch (Knit 1 stitch, Purl 1 stitch) -Join a new yarn -Pick up a dropped stitch -Bind off the last row -Finishings I can provide a cheap pair of needles and a small ball of yarn for you to keep. Time permitting, or upon request, I have many other techniques to teach. I can show how to do different cast ons, join in the round, increase, decrease, pick up stitches, read a pattern, construct a garment, button holes, sew pieces together, Fair-Isle colorwork, intarsia colorwork, brioche colorwork, cable knitting, or any thing I happen to know about other fiber arts.
