Click here to learn more. Here are the top stories today in Atlanta: Workers at the Howell Mill Road Starbucks went on strike on Sunday. The baristas picketed the store, holding signs that read "People over profits" and "Today's featured drink: strikeaccino." The workers held a one-day strike to push for better pay and more reliable scheduled hours. According to strike organizers, Starbucks has failed to bargain in good faith with the workers, who unionized earlier this year. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)The Atlanta Hawks packed one million meals for food-insecure ATLiens on Saturday. The event at State Farm Arena featured celebrities, influencers, and leaders from local and statewide governments pitching in for the cause. All in all, the packing took only 90 minutes, filling 3,539 boxes with 288 meals per box. According to data released by APD, the rate jumped by 60 percent between 2019 and 2020 and then slightly rose again in 2021. So far, 2022 is on pace to be deadlier than 2021. According to activist Shar Bates, the high cost of living in the city, as well as the growing city population, are fueling the high homicide rate. (11Alive.com WXIA) A man was shot in the chest with a crossbow at an Atlanta convenience store. According to police, officers responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. and found the victim with the aforementioned injury. The attack happened at the Pic N Pay on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. Police say that a gold minivan pulled up to the store and shot the man while he was standing outside. The man is currently in stable condition, but the attack is still under investigation as of Sunday afternoon. (11Alive.com WXIA)According to a newly released toxicology report, an infant that died at a hospital in Sep. 2021 had cocaine in his system. Robert Williams and Makaylee Nevils were arrested for child cruelty and murder charges and are both being held in the Fulton County Jail. Arrest warrants were approved on Jul. 11, and the suspects were arrested on Jul. 13.
