Stop buying red tail catfish unless you have a HEATED POND. These fish get as long as a 125 gallon fish tank and weigh around 200 pounds full grown. The MINIMUM tank size for a red tail is 2,000 gallons. Fish DO NOT grow to the size of their environment. The outside of a fishes body will stop growing if it’s environment is too small but the inside of the fish will continue growing causing internal hemorrhaging, deformation and eventually death. If you have a red tail in anything less than 2,000 gallons, you’re not cool. You’re either an idiot who didn’t do basic research for keeping a live animal or you just don’t care about anything other than your own entertainment. There are literally thousands of freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby with way more simple requirements than a red tail catfish. Stop being lazy. This is equivalent to keeping a puppy in a travel kennel for its entire life.
