The New London Drone Orchestra is a protean collective--we are never the same group twice. Our structure is like that of a pick-up basketball team. Whoever is available joins us for sessions to learn new material. Those who know enough of our repertoire are welcome to play in our concerts.
This is a radically inclusive inclusive group. We play graphic scores, instructions, and conceptual compositions brought my members of the group. We do not use standard musical notation. The only requirement for players is that we listen to one another, prioritize the group sound over individual soloing, and aim to make everyone else in the group sound good. Playing with and listening to us can feel like meditation or deep concentration. We tend to feel refreshed and renewed after playing together. Audience members have said they forget their to-do lists.
We've performed at 24-Hour Drone at Basilica Hudson in Hudson, New York, Wherehouse in Hartford, Parade Plaza in New London for Make Music Day, and local record stores. We have also given spring and winter concerts on the campus of Connecticut College since December 2017.
