Description

On August 1st 2022 the NMA will be hosted by the Georgia Historical Society and the Rich Foundation and will unveil the NMA Historical Marker at the same church where we started 127 years ago. This historic event will be a culmination of years of in-depth research into our tremendous legacy afforded to us by the wisdom of our founders. "Racial bias prevented equal access to hospitals for patients and practitioners in the 1800’s. Those barriers were created by the majority white establishment and therefore health professionals, led by Robert F. Boyd, DDS, M.D.; Miles Vanderhust Lynk, M.D.; Daniel Hale Williams, M.D.; Daniel L. Martin.; David H.C. Scott, M.D., & Henry R. Butler, M.D., attending the Cotton State and International Exposition gathered at the First Congregational Church in Atlanta and formed their own professional organization, the National Association of Colored Physicians, Dentists, and Pharmacists on “Doctors Day”, November 18, 1895. The Association became the National Medical Association in 1903 with its mission to advance the art and science of medicine for people of African descent through education, advocacy and health policy. This hard cover commemorative limited edition coffee table book is a visible journey celebrating 125 years of NMA history. Price includes shipping and handling.
