Description

Our West Philadelphia neighbors are invited to attend free Heritage West Family Sundays at the Penn Museum! Every Sunday, West Philly residents are invited to explore the Penn Museum's historical collections and new galleries to connect with an array of different cultures. Advance registration is required for complimentary entry into the museum each Sunday. Guest Services will provide passes upon check-in. The Penn Museum is home to over a million extraordinary artifacts and archaeological finds from Africa, Asia, the Americas, and the Mediterranean. The Penn Museum has been uncovering our shared humanity across continents and millennia since 1887. In bridging archaeology, the study of objects made by humans, with anthropology, the science of humanity, it charts a course for finding one’s own place in the arc of human history. Know Before You Go: The Penn Museum is ADA accessible, if you require any special accommodations please email [email protected] There is no free parking at the museum, we strongly encourage you to utilize public transportation or to car pool. Heritage West Heritage West: The West Philadelphia Community Archaeology Project, is a collaboration between community organizations the People’s Emergency Center CDC, Black Bottom Tribe Association, University City Arts League, Penn Museum, and Penn Anthropologists. Over the course of the next two years, we invite neighbors to engage with the concept of local heritage, develop a community archive, and embark on a local excavation at a location to be determined by the community.
